EV Charging Stations with PV + Energy Storage System
Project 1: Solar BESS Charging Station
- Country: China
- Configurations: Solar carport with a power of 26.68kWp
PCS energy storage bidirectional converter 250kW
Battery storage system 550kWh
Flexible charging station: 300kW
- The power supply capacity of the site is 190KVA, which fails to meet the demand for high-power fast charging of new energy vehicles, and the charging speed is slow. The application for capacity expansion takes a long time due to the complicated process. In addition, the successful application will lead to an increase in basic electricity expenses on a monthly basis; most vehicles are charged during the day, resulting in high peak electricity burden and electricity costs.
In response to this dilemma, SCU has configured a 1000kW PCS and 1.5MWh battery pack for the field station to achieve a higher power supply capacity during peak hours by storing power during low power-consumption hours, bringing up a 1MW charger load from the 190kVA power supply capacity at the field station.
With energy storage system and batteries equipped, the time and cost of applying for capacity expansion and the cost of updating is saved.
The battery is charged at night when electricity price is low and the station load is powered by the storage battery during peak hours.
A full use of natural energy through photovoltaic generation can effectively reduce the cost of field operation.
Project 2: EV charging stations on highways
- Country: Ethiopia
- Configurations: GRES 150-150 150kW/150kWh +100kW MPPT module connected to solar energy
- Solutions: With the development of new energy generation and new energy vehicles, the integrated system based on photovoltaic hybrid inverter and storage will become more and more significant. As charging infrastructure is an important "replenishment station" for new energy vehicles, the solar energy system integrates photovoltaic hybrid inverter and storage, and fast charging functions. It can be built in many sites within a short period of time. In addition, the construction of system won’t cause any trouble for power grids, and that’s what it prevails over general charging stations.
